SOP: Initial Course Build in Thinkific

1. Goal

To guide the Content Team in taking approved Atomic Knowledge Units (AKUs) and assembling them into a functional, student-ready course within Thinkific.

2. Roles

  • Content Creator: Assembles the course, uploads assets, writes descriptions.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME): Reviews the course flow and accuracy.
  • Ops Lead (Admin): Configures pricing, SEO, and publishing settings.

3. Prerequisites

  • Approved "Course Outline" (Lesson Plan) in Loop.
  • All video/text assets created and verified (Status: #Verified).
  • Thinkific account provisioned and branding applied.

4. Workflow

A. Create the Product (Course)

  1. Log in to Thinkific > Manage Learning Products > Courses.
  2. Click New Course > Select Blank (recommended for full control) or a Template.
  3. Name the Course: Use the exact title from the Loop Outline.

B. Build the Curriculum (Modules & Lessons)

  1. Add Chapters (Modules): Create a Chapter for each Module in your outline (e.g., "Module 1: Introduction").
  2. Add Lessons (AKUs): Inside each Chapter, add Lessons.
    • Video Lesson: Upload the MP4 file. Wait for processing. Add a text summary below the video.
    • Text Lesson: Copy/paste formatted text from Loop. Use H2/H3 headers for readability.
    • PDF/Download: Use the "Download" lesson type for checklists or templates.
    • Quiz: Add a "Quiz" lesson at the end of key modules. Set passing grade (default 80%).

C. Configure Course Settings

  1. Basic Settings:
    • Course Image: Upload a 1440x900px card image (branded).
    • Description: Paste the approved marketing copy.
  2. Player Appearance: Ensure the brand colors/font match the site theme.
  3. Completion Certificate: (Optional) Enable if this is a certification course.

D. Pricing & Enrollment (Ops Lead)

  1. Pricing: Set to "Free" (if lead magnet) or "One-time payment" (if paid). Enter the price.
  2. After Purchase: Set the "After purchase flow" to specific thank-you page or custom URL.

E. Publish

  1. Preview the course as a student. Check every video and link.
  2. Set Status to Published.
  3. Copy the Course URL and update the Master Course Catalog in Loop.

5. Quality Assurance Checklist

  • All videos play correctly.
  • Audio is clear.
  • No typos in lesson titles or text.
  • Downloads work.
  • Quiz grading works.
  • Mobile view looks good.
